The Emergence of COVID-19 to Augment Growth of the Sports and Fitness Apps
Sports and fitness apps have become an integral part of daily lives of millions of mobile users. Fitness apps are becoming increasingly popular among individuals seeking a healthy lifestyle. Fitness apps can perform various functions such as allowing users to set fitness goals, tracking caloric intake, and gathering workout ideas to facilitate healthy behavior change. Sports and fitness apps are widely used by athletes and sports coaches to enhance performance of their teams by analyzing the strong areas of the users and by monitoring user performance. The emergence of COVID-19 has increased the popularity of the sports and fitness apps, which in turn, is expected to augment the sports and fitness apps market growth.
Closure of fitness centers and public parks has forced people to stay at home, which has disturbed their daily routines and hampered their fitness activities. As a result, people have started adopting sports and fitness apps to maintain healthy lifestyle. According the World Economic Forum, worldwide, health and fitness app downloads grew by around 46% between Q1 and Q2 2020. India saw the highest increase in downloads, rising by 156% (around 58 million new active users). The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region saw the second highest growth in downloads, at a 55% increase, followed by Asia-Pacific with a 47% increase. This in turn is also expected to drive the sports and fitness apps market growth.
